Arriving In Corpus Cristi Texas

After miles and miles of miles and miles we made it through Texas.  Of course nothing is ever easy for us and we hit record ice storms from Arizona through most all of Texas. For almost three days we couldn't go faster than 30 mph.  From East of El Paso to Corpus Christi there wasn't a motel to be had so we drove 27 hours straight thru.  Oh did I mention all of the towns were also out of gas? or so they said, after going to 6-8 different stations across three towns and 80 mile stretch, we thought no way.  then we remembered how in Florida when there were hurricanes the stations would say they were out and cover pump handles so next am they could raise prices.  So when we came to yet another town and no gas and we were on fumes and NO motels we took a cover off a pump ran our card and guess what we filled up and continued on in a hurry before anyone came out to tell us we couldn't do that.  We did that twice over the next two days thru Texas.  Also gas is very cheap here $1.90 to 1.95. There were so many wrecked trucks (semi) smashed turned over or split right in half from the bad road conditions, and several cars also, it was miserable drive.  So that is the trip here.

Now for the rental house we were going to get.  It was a nice house built in 1973 in great neighborhood with big yard front and fenced back yard.  However it had no upgrades since 1973 to include the stove lights etc... Andrew didn't like that it was so old and  there would be a lot of yard work which we have no tools for.  So we decided to get motel room for a day or two and look around some more for a place.  Well we found one that afternoon we liked after talking to a few locals about where to look and what side of town etc.. Stayed at Motel for the night and moved to new place the next day (Saturday January 3rd).  While driving thru Texas ice storm we did listen to the Rose Bowl Game between our Ducks and Seminoles.  Whoooo Hoooo! highlight of the drive.  Go Ducks!  our son in law and grandson were at the game, and prior to game they all went to Rose Bowl Parade as Kyp got invited to VIP sitting by the mayor and chief of police in Pasadena.  They  had literally front row seating and could reach right out and touch the floats as they went by.  Guess it pays to know the right people!

So we got a three bed room two full bath place, 1400 square feet with a garage separate from apartment.  We are on level floor with a porch in front (small) and patio on side kind of,  there is a gym, pool and clubhouse with all the Amenities.  Can view online at http://www.camdenliving.com/ once at site enter Corpus Christi Texas, the number of bed room etc.. and it is called Camden breakers.  We are all un-packed and most all stuff is put away, we are awaiting a few furniture deliveries still.  So far we love it here and the road system is very easy and logical to get around.  We have been out to explore and went out to the military base which has a very nice commissary and exchange, it is a Naval Air station.  People are so friendly and are very polite drivers also.  I think we have finally found our place again.  Since leaving Las Vegas where we were really happy we have just been bumping around trying to find where home is.  We both really like it here so far.  I did meet up with some fire ants in the grass, and as my dear friend Marilyn would say "you'll only do that once'.  I suffer the entire night from their bites at my ankles.  I never experienced anything like that before.  So our granddaughter Sierra and great grandson Hunter will arrive on Monday the 12th.  We are very excited, that part of the house is very bare and quiet right now.  She is excited also to finally get babies room set up with all her stuff and be settled someplace. She will start school in a month or so after she gets settled in and gets a car. Well that is all my news for now, will surely post more as we learn our way around and explore the town people and places more.  Here are some current pic's of the house and of course baby Hunter and his mommy.
