Come on Summer

We are wrapping up our stay here at Fort Stevens a little earlier than expected.  We were due to finish here and head back to Nehalem in June, however we will be leaving at the end of this week on the 11th of May.  Andrew got hired as an Assistant Ranger and was due to start on June 2nd, but they called and want to start him on May 19th.  I will still be hosting June, July and August at Nehalem, but Andrew will not and he will be working at Ecola State Park which is only 20 miles away.  We have enjoyed the Historical Museum area here at fort Stevens and all the people are great. The first month we worked in the museum store, and this month we drove the vintage 1952 duce 1/2 truck tour.  (see photo below)

We also sold the motorhome and finally bought a bigger trailer.  It will be delivered on Monday the 12th of May to Nehalem Bay from Portland.   We are very excited to move into our new place.  Our son and daughter in law let us use their tent trailer for two weeks while we looked for new trailer.  We will bring that back to them on Sunday.   Below are some pictures of the new trailer.  We also got a call last week from a VA lawyer wanting to schedule a phone conference with us.  We did the phone conference Tuesday.  (After we left Las Vegas I filed a Tort Claim against the VA there for nearly killing Andrew and not treating him. I had made copies of all his medical notes and record there and made a time-line graph, very detailed).  Well they are reviewing the claim for final actions and wanted to hear in person from him and his side of the claim and how he is now doing.  It went very well and we were led to think we will receive something from the claim.  The lawyer said we will hear final decision by June 7th but most likely sooner.  We both felt really good about the possible outcome and they were very apologetic stating they were so sorry for our struggles this last year.   I became very emotional during the interview when we were having to re-cap what occurred there in Vegas and Andrew did also.  We will see what happens.

Andrew is better here and the symptoms are stable and in control.  We are delayed in getting seen by the VA here as there is a waiting list.  He thinks he is able to do the Assistant Ranger job okay, however he does tire easily, but it won't be to laboring of duties.  He struggles with accepting his condition still and he describes the feeling in his lungs as being like when you have a cold and are congested and your lungs feel full.  Only he isn't congested but his lungs feel full.  Last CT showed 65% lung capacity, and he states it has gotten worse.  He is suppose to be checked and have CT every 6 months, but he says no he won't do it that when he dies he dies.  So for now he is doing okay.  Quality of life is not what it was for him before and he is limited in what he can do and needs to get good rest.  Well will keep you posted !
